Vera Neumann – understood the need to protect intellectual property: distinctive trademark signature

Vera Neumann, legendary textile designer believed that contemporary style and glamor should be affordable for women and part of their everyday lives. She marketed and distributed her fabrics, scarves, garments and accessories through American department stores. An astute business woman, vera recognised that many artists’ designs were copied (without acknowledgement or remuneration) by design studios and manufacturers. She was one of the first in the industry to develop her own distinctive trademark, signature and copyright to protect her designs. Vera’s designs became well known in the 1950s and 1960s.
