Dance as YouTube spectacle

One of the common themes of popular YouTube videos is dance.

Popular dance videos are often but not always comic.

Gary Brolsma from New Jersey became a major hit with his crazy  lip synching, jiggling and dancing performance of Numa Numa in front of his webcam. This nerdy but totally unselfconscious spectacle triggered a wave of numa numa videos from around the world posted on YouTube by amateurs. This is the kind of simulation and remixing that works so well on sites such as YouTube.

Other dance performances on Youtube have had amazing popularity. This comedian’s enactment of the evolution of dance has been viewed over 138 million times.
